Join friends, family and colleagues in celebrating the extraordinary career of Michael C. Watkins, County Superintendent of Schools. Michael is retiring following 40+ years in public education in service to the youth of Santa Cruz and California.  In addition to his 12 years as elected County Superintendent, Michael has been selected to serve on numerous boards, has received multiple awards by local and statewide organizations, and has held positions of leadership in many prestigious associations.  Michael's contributions to the profession include leading the California Association of African-American Superintendents and Administrators (CASAA), and the California County Superintendents' Educational Services Association (CCSESA). He served as Vice Chair of the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE) and held long-term leadership positions on the Children's Network, Youth Resource Bank, Tannery World Dance and Cultural Center, Museum of Art and History, and the Juvenile Court, Community, and Alternative Schools Administrators...to name just a few.    Michael's retirement party will feature great music, dancing, and short tributes in his honor.   He just wants everyone to have a great time!                                                                             The retirement party of Michael Watkins will be a chance to celebrate his career, while honoring his legacy. In lieu of gifts, please consider donating to the Michael C. Watkins Alternative Education Scholarship Fund. Proceeds from your generous donation will go to a scholarship fund that will be available to students in the Santa Cruz County Office of Education's Alternative Education program seeking to continue their college and career education.  Michael Watkins has been a champion for students for 40+  years.
