This bilingual and participatory performance will explore the meaning of the Day of the Dead (el Día de los Muertos) with song, personal stories, a large variety of traditional musical instruments, and dance. Students will remember and discover Day of the Dead traditions of celebrating lost loved ones while learning more about each other. The use of a curriculum guide, focused on preparing an ofrenda (offering on an altar) including literary calaveras (poetry) for loved ones, is encouraged.
Serving 20 years as creative ambassadors of Mexican and Caribbean music and dance, Cascada de Flores uses traditional music, storytelling, and dance to weave cultural lessons into bilingual and participatory programs which are highly praised for being heartwarming, humorous, and engaging for all ages and backgrounds.
